Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Augustin was forced out of the city by Hurricane Katrina during his junior year. He finished his senior year in Missouri City, Texas. While at Brother Martin High School, in New Orleans, he led the team to 2 state championships. During his season with Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas, he helped lead them to the third round of the playoffs and was named MVP. He finished his high school career by being named a McDonalds All-American. Augustin chose to join the Texas Longhorns and started all 35 games and was named All-Big 12 Second Team and Big 12 All-Rookie Team by the coaches his freshman year. Augustin was given the opportunity to participate in the 2007 NBA Draft and chose to stay in school to develop his game. In his Sophomore year at Texas, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame awarded him the Bob Cousy Award, weeks later he declared himself for the 2008 NBA Draft where he was selected 9th by the Charlotte Bobcats. He later played for the Pacers, Raptors, Bulls, with which he had his career high of 33 points. DJ is currently a member of the Detroit Pistons.
